Physics and astronomy teacher Daniel Wicklund teaches a class during our three-week fall intensive courses.

Daniel Wicklund inspires his physics students to encounter nature with a sense of awe and wonder and to push against the boundaries of their own understanding to discover the deep beauty and harmony in the world. A former aerospace engineer who spent time working in the aviation and defense industries, Daniel discovered the joy of the classroom teaching English in Czech Republic and Switzerland. He taught for 12 years at Charles Wright Academy, in Tacoma, teaching courses in physics, astronomy, and chemistry. He believes that knowledge and curiosity span disciplines, and he loves to see his students making connections between their different courses of study. Outside of the classroom, Daniel has led students in Adirondack chair building, cooking classes, stargazing in Arizona, and exchange programs in Poland and France. He has spent time abroad, in the Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, Ireland, and Colombia; and he values the perspective that those times have lent his teaching and life. He holds a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a master’s degree in physics from the University of Washington.
